Cleanings

Dental and Periodontal Cleanings

The most common threat to your smile is plaque, which consists of hundreds of kinds of oral bacteria. Once it forms, plaque can quickly calcify into tartar if not removed promptly by brushing at least twice a day and flossing daily. Regularly-scheduled preventive cleanings allow our hygienist to clean residual plaque and calcified tartar from your teeth, reducing your risks of tooth decay and gum disease resulting from its presence. We review home care and may recommend a special toothpaste, Sonicare electric toothbrush, and Xylitol dental gum, rinses, and mints.

Scaling and Root Planing

If oral bacteria work their way underneath your gums, they can form plaque and tartar on the roots of your teeth. Before long, your gums will become infected as gum inflammation, gingivitis, and periodontitis develop. A deep cleaning, also known as a periodontal cleaning or scaling and root planing, consists of gently debriding your roots of harmful bacteria, then smoothing the root surfaces to promote tissue healing. Using a high-tech ultrasonic scaler, we can perform dental and periodontal cleanings quicker and more comfortably than before.
